Here at Oppia we know that growing bodies require fuel…. that’s why we source fresh, seasonal produce to create rotational menus that provide all the sustenance a child needs to engage in a busy day of learning.
All Oppia menus follow the advice of Nutrition Australia, The Department of Health Initiative – Feed Australia (powered by Hub Hello) and the Victorian Health Department – Healthy Eating Advisory Service.
As part of our commitment to excellence our children and families are regularly encouraged to provide feedback, suggestions and ideas relating to our menus. While our ‘Harvest to Health Program’ encourages the children to explore the cycle of food growth, harvesting and consumption while teaching the children about the value of healthy food.
Stephanie Alexander- Kitchen Garden Foundation
As part of our commitment to instilling an appreciation for healthy eating habits and achieving excellence in our food programs, Oppia is proud to announce its membership with the Kitchen Garden Foundation. Perfect for little hands and curious minds, the Kitchen Garden Program is a play based, hands on program that promotes a whole service approach to teaching children about fresh, seasonal, delicious foods.
Our mealtimes are viewed as an opportunity for the children and staff to reflect on their day or discuss topics of interest in an unrushed and flexible environment. While children are encouraged to use this time to practice important self-help skills such as serving themselves and mastering the use of utensils.
